Quick Overview

The Merits Avid Ultra is the entry point to the Avid by Merits complex rehab line, a Group 2 single power chair built on a compact mid wheel drive base just 24 inches wide. All six wheels stay planted on the ground and the front and rear suspension is tension adjustable, so the ride stays composed over thresholds and sidewalk seams while the 26 inch turning radius threads hallways and tight kitchens.

What separates the Ultra from a standard consumer power chair is its clinical seating. Center of gravity power tilt sweeps from 0 to 50 degrees posterior for pressure redistribution, and the shear reduction recline moves from 90 to 110 degrees without dragging fabric across the skin. The rehab seat frame adjusts from 16 to 22 inches in both width and depth in 1 inch increments, and backrest height spans 18 to 28 inches, so the chair can be refit as a rider's condition or body changes rather than replaced.

Twin 22NF batteries deliver up to 19 miles per charge and slide out through tool free rear access, so service happens without pulling the rider from the chair. A PG VR2 controller drives the paired 240 watt motors at up to 5 mph, and the 300 lb weight capacity covers most adult riders. Buyers choose a rehab pan seat, a cushioned captain seat or the single power configuration, with a seat to floor height as low as 16.5 inches for easy table height and transfers.

Options & Upgrades

Accessories

Popular additions for the Ultra include the swing away joystick mount so the rider can pull square under a table, the oxygen tank holder for riders on supplemental O2 and the onboard USB charger for phones and tablets. Because the rehab seat frame uses standard hardware, aftermarket positioning backs, pressure relief cushions, headrests and lateral supports fit as a rider's clinical team prescribes. Bright LED lighting is already included on the base.

How to Purchase & What's Included

Can I order the Ultra P325 over the phone?

Yes. Call us toll free at 1-888-233-5563 and we will take care of everything. All we need is your payment method and your shipping address.

If you are still deciding, we are glad to talk you through the options and help you land on the right choice.

Does Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance help pay for the Ultra P325?

Most products in this range do not meet the strict medical device rules that Medicare and Medicaid use, so they rarely qualify for coverage. We do not work with Medicare and we do not bill private insurance directly.

Some private plans will reimburse you outside of the Medicare framework. The best way to find out is to call your insurer and ask. If they say yes, we are happy to provide an invoice and proof of purchase so you can file for reimbursement.

Notice to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. Medicare pays for equipment only when the supplier has a Medicare supplier number. Heavy Duty Mobility does not have one, so Medicare will not pay for anything we sell you. You are personally and fully responsible for payment.

Financing & Monthly Payments

You can spread the cost of your Ultra P325 over time with Klarna. Choose monthly installments or a lease to own plan at checkout. The minimum monthly amount shows next to the price near the top of this page.

Documentation, Manuals & Safety

Official Merits documents for this chair

Safety notes worth knowing before delivery. Rated gradient is 6 degrees, so steep ramps should be evaluated by your dealer. Ground clearance is 2.5 inches, which suits indoor and paved outdoor use rather than rough terrain. Always drive with the seat lowered and tilt returned upright when moving at speed, and charge only with the supplied 6 amp off board charger. HCPCS coding is K0822, K0823 or K0835 depending on configuration, which your funding source may require.

Daily Operation & Transportation

Daily driving runs through the PG VR2-A2 joystick with speed dial and battery gauge, and the mount can be specified swing away so the rider slides under tables without giving up the controller position. Charging uses a 6 amp off board charger that plugs into the joystick module, and an overnight charge restores the twin 22NF batteries for up to 19 miles of use.

For maintenance the battery bay opens from the rear without tools, so batteries can be checked or swapped while the rider stays seated. This is a full size rehab chair weighing 315 to 384 lbs depending on build, so it does not fold or disassemble for car trunks. Plan on a vehicle lift, a ramp van or accessible transport. The compact 36 inch length and 24 inch width fit standard doorways and most residential elevators, and foam filled tires never go flat in storage.

Common Questions

Is the Avid Ultra the same chair as the Merits Vision Ultra P325

Yes. Merits folded the Vision Ultra into its new Avid complex rehab line in 2025 and now markets it simply as the Ultra. The factory order form still lists model numbers P325-2SC, P325-2SS and P325-2SSP, so parts and service history carry straight over.

How much can the seat tilt and why does that matter

The power tilt sweeps from 0 to 50 degrees posterior around the center of gravity. Regular tilting shifts weight off the sitting surfaces, which helps prevent pressure injuries for riders who spend most of the day in the chair.

What weight capacity and rider sizes does the Ultra handle

The Ultra is rated for riders up to 300 lbs. The rehab seat adjusts from 16 to 22 inches in width and depth in 1 inch increments and the backrest spans 18 to 28 inches, so one base fits a wide range of body sizes. Riders over 300 lbs should look at the Ultra HD, which is rated to 450 lbs.

How far does it go on a charge

With the 55Ah AGM battery pair Merits rates the Ultra at up to 19 miles per charge. The lighter 33Ah U1 pack is rated around 12 miles. Real range varies with rider weight, terrain and temperature.

Will it fit through doorways and turn inside a small home

Yes, that is the core of the design. The base is 24 inches wide and 36 inches long with a 26 inch turning radius, so it clears standard interior doors and turns around inside bathrooms and galley kitchens.

Does the Ultra fold for car transport

No. It is a full size rehab power chair weighing 315 to 384 lbs depending on configuration, so it travels in a ramp van or with a vehicle lift rather than in a trunk.

Is the Ultra Medicare coded

The chair carries HCPCS codes K0822, K0823 and K0835 depending on configuration, which places it in the Group 2 power wheelchair categories used by Medicare and many insurers. Coverage always depends on your documentation and supplier, so check with your provider before ordering.

Why buy the Ultra P325 from us?

  • We help you spec the Ultra order form correctly the first time, from seat frame size to battery choice, so the chair arrives ready for the rider
  • Straight answers on the 12 inch elevating seat, leg rest and joystick options with real pricing before you commit
  • White glove support on freight delivery of a 300 plus lb chair, not a curbside drop and a wave

  • Price match consideration against any authorized Merits dealer listing

Is Merits a Good Brand?

Merits Health Products has built mobility equipment for more than 30 years and runs its US operation out of Fort Myers Florida, where Avid line chairs are configured and supported. The company is one of the few manufacturers that engineers and builds its own power bases rather than rebadging another factory's work, which shows in details like tool free battery access and tension adjustable suspension on a Group 2 chair. Merits backs the Ultra with a limited lifetime frame warranty plus one year coverage on electronics, chargers and motors, and its national dealer network keeps parts moving quickly. The launch of the Avid complex rehab line in 2025 signals continued investment in clinical seating rather than a retreat to commodity chairs.
